Delightful 1972 Aluminium Silver Mercedes 280SE 3.5 v8 Petrol saloon with a full restoration having been carried out from 2017 to early 2020.

DESCRIPTION

Being one of the very last top end models Mercedes produced with the optional 3.5 v8 petrol engine fitted along with minor upgrades producing 200hp.

EXTERNAL

The level of detail this particular model holds can only be described as amazing, Finished in Mercedes Aluminium Silver (the vehicle originally left the factory white however the previous owner had it changed as a personal choice at the start of the restoration back in 2017 all fully documented) With the facelifted emblem grille fitted enhancing the modern look Mercedes were trying to showcase the jewel in the crown with this being the flagship model, With the modified wrap around double chrome bumpers with rubber rub inserts fitted front and rear in impeccable condition along with factory double headlamps with chrome surrounds gleaming. This is one very special original vehicle with paintwork glossy and immaculate throughout along with panels pin sharp and uniform as Mercedes intended. Sat with prominence the 4 door saloon is a heir of beauty with silver thick pinstripes running down both flanks curving around and along the rear of the vehicle this has dedication and craftsmanship stamped all over it, The 4 chrome push button door handles sit gleaming along with the driver’s door mounted chrome rear view mirror.

All badges are original and sit correct. Factory mounted aerial to the driver’s side rear sitting as intended, Lights front and rear remain original with the later flat square lenses fitted to the rear, This is sheer beauty

INTERNAL

Upon opening the door you are treated to nothing but seventies Grand Luxury with Pastel blue perforated leather seating front and rear that can only be described as immaculate along with thick chunky leather centre console armrests. With the front seatbelts still retaining the delivery plastic from the restoration this vehicle holds one little surprise. With factory deep pastel blue plush luxury carpet front and rear as new as the day it left the factory along with fitted colour coded over mats. With colour coded door cards front and rear in impeccable condition along with leather stitched door handles. All four inner door windows have wood veneer panelling fitted sitting glossy and fresh along with a white perforated headlining sitting straight and true truly unbelievable. This particular model has drivers and passenger front quarter glass windows which open and close as intended, All windows front and rear are electric and work well. The blue pastel dash sits straight with no fading or cracking along with the veneer panelling sitting centre stage, Within the veneer panelling sits a lockable glove box on the passenger with a round heater vent  to the left. To the centre of the dash a push button cigarette lighters housed along with heater controls and heater directional controls all housed in chrome which all move freely. Directly under you have the factory pull out seventies ashtray and music system which all work as intended. Sitting directly in front of the driver you have two large circular binnacles to the left housing fuel gauge, oil pressure and temperature to the right you have the speedometer which reads 42 miles yes 42 miles and centre stage you have a ‘kienze’ time clock. Cursory warning symbols are housed in between and perform as they should. Chrome ignition switch to the left of the steering wheel and to the right the pull out hazard warning switch knob. With a push button headlamp switch to the right of the dash and round heater blower vent to the side. Black legendary Mercedes steering wheel housing the centre chrome horn with the iconic Mercedes emblem sat bold within the centre. With the wiper control arm sat neatly to the right on the steering column.

Within the large boot area you are treated to the same pastel blue deep pile fitted carpet along with factory jack and wheel brace which sits neatly to the boot slam panel. The spare wheel sits in its well on the driver’s side housed in a pastel blue leather cover.

Everything’s original and working this is as good as it gets its as per if not better than when it left the factory.    

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

With the upgraded v8 petrol engine fitted to this particular model producing some 200bhp this back in the day happened to be one of the first cars to achieve these figures, With the bosch ignition system fitted only the best to be included with the vehicles Prudential’s, Purring beautifully this has had a full engine and gearbox rebuild running into thousands of pounds between 2017-2020 resulting in virtually everything having been replaced with genuine parts and full paper inventory backs this up, The automatic gearbox slides into gear very smoothly and will when pushed gracefully let the horses out and gallop up to 70mph and beyond with ease. The level of restoration is truly amazing and probably will never be repeated to this standard. Everything remaining original even down to the battery.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES-

With originality retained sat on steel wheels  with factory Mercedes chrome shine wheel trims fitted all round in the very best of condition shod with as new Michelin 185/R14 tyres all round. With a full restoration having been carried out Calliper discs brakes new front and rear and in the very best condition along with servo assistance bringing you to a controlled and precise stop.

HISTORY FILE

What a vehicle this is, The secret this vehicle retains is within the restoration. This vehicle has had £79.882.29 in restoration costs alone spent on it from 2017 up until early 2020 all documented along with part numbers. This has been back to the shell and rebuilt up using nothing but genuine Mercedes parts. Every part inside and out along with the underneath has been replaced along with keeping the originality of the vehicle. The mileage before restoration work shows 32,267 miles back in 2014, Having then in 2017 a full restoration carried out and new dash clocks fitted, since the restoration has been carried out its done a mere 42 miles as per the speedometer today. With reams of invoices and old mot certificates the credentials are fully validated along with the original Mercedes issued vehicle card. The vehicle was first registered on the 16th June 1972 very late from when the last model rolled of the production line.
