ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

At the heart of the Daimler Dart SP250 lies the renowned 2.5-litre V8 petrol engine, a compact yet powerful unit featuring Hemi-head alloy construction. Smooth, responsive, and delivering a distinctive exhaust note, this engine was advanced for its time and remains highly regarded for its reliability and performance.

Producing approximately 140 bhp, the V8 propels the lightweight fibreglass-bodied Dart with ease, offering brisk acceleration and an engaging driving experience well suited to spirited road use or relaxed touring.

Mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox, gear changes are clean and precise, with a well-weighted clutch and direct linkage contributing to the car’s sporting character. The drivetrain combination ensures that the Dart remains both a lively performer and a highly usable classic.

This example benefits from careful mechanical upkeep, starting with ease and delivering strong, smooth power through all gears — a testament to its ongoing maintenance and mechanical integrity

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

This SP250 sits on its original 15-inch chrome wire-spoke wheels, which present beautifully with a bright, polished finish that perfectly complements the car’s period style. These classic wheels are shod in a matching set of Toyo 165/80/R15 tyres on all four corners, each displaying even wear and ample tread, ensuring confident road holding and a compliant ride.

Braking is provided by disc brakes on both the front and rear, as standard on the SP250 a notable specification for the era, delivering reliable and assured stopping power. The calipers and brake system have been maintained to a high standard, contributing to a responsive and progressive braking feel.

Underneath, the Dart features independent front suspension with coil springs and telescopic dampers, offering balanced handling and a supple ride. At the rear, a live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs and telescopic dampers ensures stability and control, all while maintaining the car’s original driving characteristics.

Together, the combination of wire wheels, capable braking, and well-engineered suspension provides a refined yet engaging driving experience true to the SP250’s reputation as a capable and enjoyable British sports car
