DESCRIPTION

The iconic Yamaha RD250 remains one of the most recognisable and highly regarded motorcycles of its era. It became a firm favourite with riders throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, thanks to its combination of lightweight agility, lively performance and unmistakable character.

At the heart of the RD250 was a 247cc air-cooled parallel-twin two-stroke engine, delivering strong acceleration, crisp throttle response and the distinctive power delivery that made Yamaha’s two-stroke machines so entertaining to ride. Its light weight and sharp handling made it equally enjoyable on winding country roads or at weekend race meetings.

The RD250 played an important part in establishing Yamaha as a major force in the performance motorcycle market. Decades later, its combination of style, performance and pure two-stroke character continues to attract enthusiasts, making it a highly desirable classic motorcycle

EXTERNAL

Finished in classic Yamaha Black with contrasting white decals, this RD250 presents exceptionally well, combining its timeless styling with the unmistakable character of a Yamaha two-stroke. The deep black bodywork retains a rich, even shine, while the distinctive white decals remain crisp and well-defined, complementing the motorcycle’s clean, classic lines beautifully.

The black-finished engine casings sit neatly against the bodywork, with the Yamaha badging providing just the right amount of contrast and retaining the bike’s original character.

Showing just over 23,000 miles, this RD250 has clearly benefited from careful ownership throughout its life. The chrome front and rear mudguards remain bright and very presentable, while the polished fork assemblies and rear suspension components continue to display an excellent level of finish.

The switchgear is all functioning correctly, with the factory ignition switch and matching key operating as they should. Indicators and Yamaha-correct lenses remain in place, helping to maintain the bike’s authentic period appearance.

The dual seat is finished in black with the correct period chequered pattern and retaining strap. It remains in excellent condition, with no obvious signs of wear or damage. The frame and chassis components also present particularly well, reflecting the care and attention this motorcycle has received over the years.

In front of the rider is the traditional twin-clock instrument cluster, comprising the speedometer and rev counter, both of which operate correctly and provide all the essential information expected from a classic Yamaha of this era.

The accompanying warning and indicator lights function as intended, while the handlebar controls, levers and grips retain a pleasing factory-correct appearance and feel.

Lifting the seat reveals a clean and tidy storage area, further highlighting the originality and well-maintained condition of this much-loved RD250.
