ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, SUSPENSION & BRAKING

Powering this 1975 Kawasaki KH500 A8 is the iconic 498cc air-cooled, piston-port, inline three-cylinder two-stroke engine, an unmistakable powerplant renowned for its distinctive exhaust note and exhilarating delivery. Producing approximately 52 brake horsepower the triple-cylinder engine starts readily, settles into the characteristic crisp two-stroke idle and delivers smooth, progressive acceleration throughout the rev range before coming onto the pipe with the surge these legendary machines are celebrated for.

Power is transmitted through a five-speed constant mesh manual gearbox, which offers precise and positive gear engagement. The clutch action is light and progressive, allowing for smooth take-up from a standstill, while each ratio is selected confidently, making the motorcycle equally at home on relaxed touring roads or more spirited riding. The gearbox complements the flexible nature of the engine, enabling the rider to make full use of the KH500's broad spread of performance.

The tubular steel double-cradle frame provides a reassuringly stable platform, while the telescopic hydraulic front forks and Hagon rear shock absorbers work together to deliver a composed and comfortable ride without detracting from the motorcycle's authentic character. Steering is light and predictable, with the chassis remaining balanced through sweeping bends and inspiring confidence at both lower and higher road speeds.

Braking performance is provided by a hydraulic front disc brake working in conjunction with a rear drum brake, offering progressive stopping power that is well suited to the machine's performance. Combined with the 19-inch front and 18-inch rear Takasago chrome wire-spoked wheels, the KH500 feels planted on the road, with responsive handling and reassuring stability.

Overall, this Kawasaki KH500 A8 is a beautifully presented example of one of the most charismatic Japanese performance motorcycles of the 1970s. It retains all of the unmistakable excitement, soundtrack and engaging riding experience that made Kawasaki's two-stroke triples legendary, while delivering the mechanical refinement and confidence expected from a carefully maintained classic
